Following the Covid-19 closure for most of 2020, the Rex re-opened on 5 February 2021 with great fan-fare with the Charlton Debutant Ball. The re-opening movie was the Australian hit "The Dry" which drew record crowds requiring a last minute additional Sunday screening on 7 February.
